visitors to Singapore increased 4.3 percent during last year Chinese New Year celebrations. In 2008, the number of tourists from Saudi Arabia increased 21.1 percent and from the UAE by 9.8 percent. The Singapore Tourism Board said it expects even more visitors from the region for this year’s New Year celebrations, from now until March 7th.
Jason Ong, Area Director, Middle East and Africa, Singapore Tourism Board, said because of the new developments opening in Singapore like Resorts World Sentosa, Singapore’s first integrated resort, “we are anticipating even more visitors from the Middle East will join us in celebrating Singapore’s rich multi-cultural heritage,” The celebrations for the year of the Tiger 2010 include the annual New Year Light-Up in Singapore’s Chinatown where paper lanterns will be hung. A stretch of New Bridge Road and Eu Tong Sen Street will be decorated with giant cherry blossoms for this years ‘Celebration of Spring’ theme.
