Qantas Airways teams up with Emirates

Australian airline Qantas announced on Thursday that it would be teaming up with Dubai-based Emirates from April 2013. Qantas is ending a long-term relationship with British Airways and abandoning Singapore as a Qantas hub.

Qantas passengers will have access to more than 70 Emirates destinations in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Emirates will gain connections to more than 50 domestic destinations from the Australian airline.

The partnership means that all European flights from the Australian airline will be redirected via Dubai. Qantas will keep two daily flights from Sydney to London and from Melbourne to London, but both will be via Dubai instead of Singapore.

Customers will be able to book Qantas seats via Emirates as Emirates flights will be part of Qantas timetable. Frequent flyers will be able to earn and use points from both airlines.
