Qatar bans visa on arrival for US, UK nationals

British and American citizens can no longer obtain a visa on arrival in Qatar according to new rules effective from May 1st. British and UK citizens are now among the nationals of 33 countries that must apply for a visa prior to their arrival in Qatar. A single entry tourist visa will cost $30 for all nationalities. The new rules also mean that people wishing to travel to Qatar for business reasons must have their visa arranged through the Ministry of Interior. British citizens who want to apply for a Qatari visa must provide bank statements for the last three months showing the name and address of the applicant, and proving that there is at least $1,300 in the applicants account.
Nationals from the following countries are also affected by the new rules: France, Italy, Germany, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, The Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg, Switzerland, Austria, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Portugal, Ireland, Greece, Finland, Spain, Monaco, the Vatican, Iceland, Andorra, San Marino, Lichtenstein, Brunei, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and South Korea.
