Shangri-La Maldives announces private terminal at Gan Airport

At 5 p.m. local time on Thursday, 31 January 2013, the official launch takes place at the Executive Terminal in the presence of Mr. Mohamed Nazim, the minister of defence and national security and acting transport and communications minister; Mr. Abdullah Jihaad, minister of finance and treasury; Mr. Rene D. Egle, the resort's general manager; as well as key Maldivian based tour operators and media representatives.

The Executive Terminal built for the SAARC summit in 2011 was taken over by Shangri-La's Villingili Resort and Spa for the exclusive arrival and departure of Shangri-La's guests at Gan. Rebranded, the new terminal comprises two separate large rooms and one VIP exclusive section, the lounge offers all first class facilities that guests might need upon arrival.

"Providing our guests a luxurious experience and a true personalised welcome from the moment they land, is for me a great achievement. I am very thankful to the local authorities and the Gan International Airport team for their excellent cooperation since the first discussions about this project. Today is a great day for our resort and Addu Atoll, and we are all ready to welcome our international clientele from all over the world, either via Male or directly to Gan by private jet," said Mr. Egle.

Shangri-La's Villingili Resort and Spa, Maldives, on Addu Atoll, is the first luxury resort south of the equator in the Maldives. The resort features 132 villas with views of the ocean or of the island's natural lush vegetation. For further information and or to make a reservation, please telephone the resort on (960) 689 7888
