Prayer and Mosques

Paris and its immediate surrounding communes host an extensive network of mosques and prayer halls, reflecting the city’s large and diverse Muslim population. The spiritual and administrative anchor of the community is the Grande Mosquée de Paris, commissioned by the French state and completed in 1926 in the 5th arrondissement. This historic monument features a magnificent 33-meter-high minaret, lush Andalusian courtyards with marble pools, and a spacious main prayer hall that accommodates up to 1,000 worshippers. The mosque features completely separate, well-maintained wudu (ablution) areas for men and women, alongside dedicated female prayer spaces.
