In fact the antiques collected from all over Europe and elsewhere along with original paintings, tapestries, etc, make this a museum hotel a showcase of French art for international visitors. The pink dome conspicuously stands out as a landmark of the area. What better way to pay homage to the rich and famous than to outfit the rooms according to their personalities; such as the Coco Chanel room. Some rooms are modeled on literary or musical themes like the La Traviata. The suites and public areas are even more extravagant. The Louis XIV salon and the Napoleon III suite create a sense of majesty. The Mediterranean and private beach facing rooms have balconies and are the most expensive. Housed in a maison bourgeoise built by disciples of Gustav Eiffel in 1895, Hotel Windsor lies near the Negresco and the promenade des Anglais. Different artists have made their presence felt through their decorative works commissioned on the walls, etc. The heir of the Redolfi family travelled widely through Asia, Africa and South America and had artists paint his mystical and mythical visions in the hotel guest rooms. The ‘Ben’ room is like a painted poetry book where an artist of the same name painted verses of his own poetry. Blue, orange, yellow and green tones on a white background give a dramatic look. Guests have the option of selecting a room based on photographs or else they can take a chance and see what’s available. They can also get the feel of an Amazonian jungle as they walk through the garden grown with scores of tropical and exotic plants and hear recorded sounds of singing Amazonian birds. Control of Nice passed through many hands from the French King Louis XIV to the new French Republic to the Italians and then back to the French. This constant change in powers lasted nearly 400 years during the 18th century. During the 19th century Nice started to attract artists, such as Chagall and Van Gogh; and rich holiday goers that included the aristocratic English classes who transformed Nice's seafront with a promenade and the building of huge houses. In the modern times Nice has been occupied by Italy during the Second World War too.Nowadays, Nice is a highly sought after holiday destination and is known as the capital of the French Riviera.

Transportation

Car for Hire
The main car rental companies have offices at the airport as well as within the main city as well. The main car hire companies include:

Buses
Nice has a very good public transportation system. The local buses start from the Station Central SNCF, which is a short distance from the Place Masséna. No location in the city center of Nice is more than a 10 minute walk from the famous promenades namely promenade des Anglais and the promenade des Etats-Unis. Buses numbered 2 and 12 run along the promenade des Anglais. Passengers can be dropped off at any of the beaches along that route.

Trains
Nice-Ville SNCF is Nice's main train station. There are hourly trains to all the major locations along the coast such as Cannes, Antibes and Monaco. The tickets to these places are all reasonably priced and the scenic routes adds to the charm. Tickets and information can be found at any station. There are rapid train connections to all major French and Italian cities. For further information you can call the train station at +33 08-9235-3535.

Taxi
Taxis are easily available but quite over-priced. They should be avoided as much as possible due the ridiculously high fares. A taxi from the airport to the Nice city center can easily cost € 35. Fares for taxis within the city of Nice should be less than € 20. It is important to insist on being charged by the meter and to watch the meter as taxi drivers here are not known for their honesty.

From the airport
Nice's airport is connected to the city center and the main train station by buses that leave frequently and on time. Bus numbers 23 and 98 go to the Nice-Ville train station and the city center respectively and leave every half hour. The fare for these buses is € 4 per passenger. There are a number of other buses that also run into the city. Your hotel may also have an airport pick-up service which you can ask about when making your reservations. Taking a taxi into the city from the airport would cost € 35 on average.

Driving Tips
The minimum age at which driving is allowed is 18 and the driver requires either a valid EU national driving license or a valid international driver license for non-EU citizens. You should give way to the traffic coming from the right. If there is a yellow diamond sign apparent, only then do you have the right of way. Another thing to remember is that you must stop completely at 'Stop' signs. You always drive on the right hand side and overtake from the left. Also before you begin driving it would be useful to have a look at the various signs and traffic signals so as to understand the road signs and speed limits. Speed limits are generally as follow: City 50 kilometers per hour, major roads 110 kilometers per hour and on the motorways 130 kilometers per hour. In case of wet weather conditions, the speed limit on motorways is reduced to 110 kilometers per hour and 90 kilometers per hour on major roads. Speed monitoring by radars is common and there can be very expensive on-the-spot fines. Do not drive fast and know that speed limits can alter in conditions of poor visibility and wet weather. Also headlights must be switched on during the day if there is poor visibility.
