Montreal has a temperate climate, though locals will tell you there are only two – winter and road construction. May to September is generally sunny and comfortable, though it does rain. Temperatures rarely rise above 30C. Winters are frigid and snowy. From December through February, temperatures rarely rise above freezing. Montreal gets more than 200cm of snow every year too.

Montreal History
Various Native American tribes – the Huron, Algonquin, and Iroquois – have inhabited the Montreal area for thousands of years. The Europeans arrived on the scene in 1535, when Jacques Cartier arrived on Montreal Island (named for Mount Royal) and established the village of Hochelaga. In 1605, Samuel de Champlain set up a fur trading post in the region. In the coming centuries the settlement continued to grow, and was an important hub in the fur trading business.

A festival celebrating written arts, literature, poetry, and satire. Performances range from poetry recitals to comedy acts to literary stage shows. The evenning (5 to 7) shows are usually free for all, but it is the late night sittings (11pm onwards) that really mesmerize the audience. Tickets are quite reasonable, at $12 - $15. The show starts with renowned performers, and then switches on to newly discovered talented artists. They keep the guests enteratined with mesmerizing recitals and narratives, as well as original compositions. Some of the events also feature small press publishers, who help emerging writers to get their work published. The event may become a drag for the youthful, partying soul, but it is surely not to be missed if you are into literature and poetry.
