Overview & visitor information
The Great Wall is a network of fortifications built and rebuilt over many periods across northern China. Earlier defensive walls were joined under Qin Shi Huang; substantial surviving sections date from the Ming dynasty. Different sections around Beijing have separate entrances, transport arrangements and visiting conditions.
