For charming ornamental plates and ceramic dishes and vases coated in enameled blues and whites and golden shades, head to the family-owned business by the name of Esmaili at Imam Square. The family owns two outlets, both equally popular. The owners are especially polite, greeting you with a smile and a steaming cup of local green tea, and you can stay and window-shop as long as you like – but of course, it is polite to buy something before leaving rather than waste an awful lot of the shopkeeper’s time chatting away just to kill time.

Isfahan is not a city geared specifically towards children. The air around the city is formal, sober, and one of intellect and reverence rather than frolic and merrymaking.
