Why visit
Çiçek Pasajı (Flower Passage) opened in 1876 as the Cité de Péra and today shelters a row of classic Turkish meyhanes under an ornate iron-and-glass roof. The narrow passage retains original architectural details while serving meze platters, grilled fish, and rakı to locals and visitors alike.
What to see
The arcade sits midway along İstiklal Avenue, making it an easy lunch or early-evening stop when walking between Galata and Taksim. Its compact size and central location allow travelers to sample authentic meyhane culture without committing an entire evening.
Plan your visit
Most meyhanes follow the Muslim-majority baseline of no pork; alcohol service (rakı and wine) is standard and clearly visible. Families or those avoiding alcohol can choose the few non-alcoholic cafés at the entrance or move to nearby side streets for simpler lokanta fare. Washrooms are basic but include bidet fixtures as is standard in the city.
Good to know
Limitation: the passage can feel smoky and noisy after 20:00; earlier visits (17:00–19:00) offer better atmosphere for families and quieter conversation.
