Public transit

Istanbul's integrated network includes Metro Istanbul rail lines, trams, funiculars, Marmaray, municipal buses and Şehir Hatları ferries. Istanbulkart is the practical payment tool for many services; check current fares, operating hours, transfer rules and service notices on the official operator sites because tariffs and closures change. Ferries are both transport and a useful way to pace a day between European and Asian districts.

Plan around the first and last service, station stairs, ferry boarding and the walk between platforms and sights. Avoid crossing the city repeatedly at peak hours, keep a taxi fallback for late returns or mobility needs, and use official route planners rather than an unverified map screenshot.
