The Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) is leading a significant campaign to provide substantial, sector wide, energy, water, and waste reduction by the end of 2010. The tourism authority is aiming to achieve a savings of 10 percent in energy, 20 percent in water, and 20 percent waste-to- landfill use this year. ADTA director for Tourism Standards said “These ambitious targets are aimed at improving the environmental performance of hotels so that they are in line, if not better than, the world’s greenest hotels.” A series of EHSMS seminars and workshops were held for stakeholders, hotels in particular, to provide information about the initiatives in order to kick start the programs.
