Phuang Malai is the art of garland making, offered every Monday at 3 pm. The price of Dhs 49 includes a herbal refreshment beverage, and participants get to take their own garland home. The art of Phuang Malai was originally a craft practised by women in the Royal Palace, and now forms part of everyday life in Thailand. They are used in offerings to Buddha images, worn by the bride and groom at a wedding, or simply given as a gesture of welcome and good luck.
The hotel will also be continuing classes in the art of Kaesa-lak or vegetable and fruit carving. Fruit and vegetable carving is considered one of the ten traditional Thai crafts which was once the preserve of chefs preparing banquets for royalty but now practised in many kitchens across Thailand. Classes take place every Wednesday at a cost of Dhs 49 and participants get to take their carving home.
And for food lovers the Withitum Aharn Thai or Thai cooking classes will take place on Fridays at 3 pm. These classes include a recipe sheet, herbal refreshment and participants get to enjoy their own Thai meal for just Dhs 79.
Advance reservations are necessary, and classes are for up to 6 students. For further details and reservations, contact Dusit Princess City Centre on +971 4 209 5000
