Old Ajman houses to be restored for tourism

June 13 - More than 40 old houses near the core of the emirate in Ajman’s Al Nakheel 5 and 6 areas will be restored as part of an ambitious project to transform the area into a tourist attraction by the first quarter of 2011. Al Muhairi, who is Head of Planning and Survey Department at the Ajman Municipality and Planning Department said “Ideally located around the Ajman National Museum, the areas include more than 40 old houses and form the old core of the emirate. These houses, which are now occupied by workers, will be evacuated to start restoration work.” He said a committee will be formed, from the municipality and Ajman Department of Culture and Information, to make sure restoration is appropriate and based on traditional architectural designs.
