Why dine here
Uyghur food - the Turkic, Muslim cuisine of China's far west - is one of travel's great under-discovered pleasures, and Jahunger in East Cambridge is Boston's celebrated ambassador. Hand-pulled laghman noodles arrive chewy under cumin-scented lamb and peppers; big-plate chicken (dapanji) buries potatoes and noodles in a rich, gently spicy braise; skewers come off the grill blistered and fragrant. Harvard student reviewers call every visit rich and unique. As a Muslim cuisine, the kitchen is halal by heritage; certification is informal, so ask if needed. The room is modest and family-run in feel - go for lunch after the MIT Museum or CambridgeSide, and order the laghman first.
