Dubai tour operators have reduced their prices by as much as 40 percent in order to attract more tourists as there will be many new hotels opening in 2010. A spokesman for the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) said “Last year the average room rate had reached $700 in Dubai. Now, with increased competition, five star properties are more affordable.” Last month STR Global reported that Dubai hotels had the largest drop in average daily room rate (ADR), at 29.3 percent to $264.73 and revenue per available room (RevPar) fell more than 35 percent to $198.22 Last month Dubai hotels had the biggest decline in room revenues in the Middle East, compared to the same period last year.
