Why visit
Mercer Labs describes itself as a Museum of Art and Technology, occupying a multilevel gallery at 21 Dey Street beside the World Trade Center. Its 36,000 square feet are divided into fifteen experimental spaces, replacing a conventional sequence of objects and labels with environments built from projection, sound and responsive systems.
What to see
Rooms change in scale and behavior. The Map wraps imagery around a 360-degree field, while The Engine combines mirrored architecture, large screens and moving light. Other installations respond to touch or motion, employ robotics, isolate a single color, or merge physical play structures with animated digital surfaces.

The museum is self-guided and its programs rotate, so the precise visual material can change while the underlying rooms remain. Roy Nachum's artistic direction treats technology as a medium rather than a demonstration, asking how images, acoustics and a moving audience can jointly form an artwork across the building.
