The Intrepid Museum occupies the aircraft carrier Intrepid at Pier 86 on the Hudson River. Commissioned in 1943, the ship served during the Second World War, the Cold War and Vietnam, and later supported NASA recovery missions. Its outdoor flight deck now places historic aircraft against the Manhattan skyline.
What to expect
The collection represents every branch of the United States armed forces and includes aircraft from other countries. Visitors encounter propeller planes, jet fighters, helicopters and specialized Cold War designs while seeing the island structure, navigation areas and working surfaces that once supported flight operations at sea.
Plan your visit
The Space Shuttle Pavilion, reached from the flight-deck level, houses Enterprise, NASA's prototype orbiter. The museum also preserves the submarine Growler and exhibition spaces inside Intrepid's hangar and lower decks. Together, these objects turn one historic ship into a layered account of naval aviation, spaceflight and twentieth-century engineering.
