Why visit
Top of the Rock is the observation complex at the summit of 30 Rockefeller Plaza, the central Art Deco tower of Rockefeller Center. Visitors rise through exhibitions on the building and complex before reaching three viewing levels on the 67th, 69th and 70th floors.
What to see
Indoor galleries on the lower level provide weather-protected views, while broad terraces behind glass open on the 69th floor. The 70th-floor deck has no roof or glass barrier directly in front of its principal sightlines, creating a continuous panorama above the limestone setbacks of the tower.
Plan your visit
Its Midtown position produces a distinctive composition: the Empire State Building dominates the southern view, Central Park opens beyond the dense blocks to the north, and the Hudson and East Rivers mark Manhattan's edges. The deck is therefore inseparable from Rockefeller Center's architecture, using one landmark as a platform from which to read many others.
