Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden occupies the former Sailors' Snug Harbor, a nineteenth-century retirement community for seamen on Staten Island's north shore. A monumental row of Greek Revival buildings faces a broad lawn, preserving the institutional scale and classical order of the original charitable campus.
What to see
The grounds now contain visual-art galleries, performance venues, the Staten Island Museum and Staten Island Children's Museum alongside working studios and educational spaces. Adaptive reuse gives the historic halls new cultural functions while retaining their colonnades, masonry interiors and relationship to smaller service buildings across the site.

Botanical areas range from formal perennial beds and wetlands to the New York Chinese Scholar's Garden, whose pavilions, rocks, water and enclosed views follow classical Suzhou garden principles.
