Why visit
The Intrepid Museum is centered on the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid at Pier 86 on the Hudson River. Commissioned in 1943, the ship survived five kamikaze attacks and a torpedo strike during the Second World War, later serving through the Cold War and Vietnam War and as a NASA recovery vessel.
What to see
Its flight and hangar decks display military and civilian aircraft, while the Space Shuttle Pavilion contains Enterprise, NASA's prototype orbiter. The collection also includes the record-setting British Airways Concorde Alpha Delta G-BOAD and the Cold War submarine Growler, whose confined operational spaces are open as a separate onboard route.
