Why visit
The 9/11 Memorial occupies eight acres of the World Trade Center site and commemorates the 2,983 people killed in the attacks of September 11, 2001 and the February 26, 1993 bombing. Michael Arad and Peter Walker's Reflecting Absence design places square waterfall pools within the footprints of the former towers.
What to see
Victims' names are cut into bronze parapets around the pools and arranged through meaningful adjacencies that keep relatives, colleagues, flight crews and responder units together. Swamp white oaks fill the plaza, including the Survivor Tree, a Callery pear recovered from the debris and nursed back to health.

Below ground, the museum descends to the site's archaeological level around surviving foundation elements, monumental steel remnants and the slurry wall. Historical and memorial exhibitions combine objects, recorded voices, images and individual biographies, separating factual chronology from spaces intended for grief while preserving the physical scale of the destroyed complex.
