Overview
Do not accept a ride from a person soliciting passengers inside an airport or on the street. Match the driver, vehicle and plate with the app or dispatch record, use the meter where required and keep the receipt because it identifies the trip if luggage is lost or a complaint is needed. Request an accessible vehicle when required and report serious safety concerns through 911 or non-emergency service concerns through 311.
The Taxi and Limousine Commission regulates the city's yellow and green taxis as well as for-hire vehicle bases, drivers and accessible services. A legitimate trip therefore leaves an identifiable record through the meter, dispatch company or app. Yellow taxis are the citywide street-hail fleet, while green taxis were created to serve street hails outside the Manhattan core and airport exclusion zones defined by TLC rules.
