Overview
A federal holiday does not create one citywide opening pattern. Government offices and banks may close, while museums, shops, restaurants, attractions and transit operators use their own schedules. Thanksgiving, the Christmas and New Year period, major parades and Independence Day can also change crowds and street access. Check the relevant official venue and transport source shortly before the date.
The federal list is distinct from school calendars, New York State observances and organization-specific closures. A museum may open on a day when a government office is closed, while a private business may shorten hours without closing. Parade routes and security zones can affect nearby streets and bus services even when the attraction itself remains open.
